Origins of the German Coast of Louisiana

In 1721, your ancestors left the war-torn Germanic regions of France, Germany, and Switzerland behind—fleeing famine, devastation, and desperation. They crossed an ocean under John Law’s promise of a new life, arriving to the wild, untamed Louisiana frontier. Along the banks of the Mississippi River, they endured disease, floods, and isolation—but they stayed, they survived, and they built what would become the German Coast of Louisiana.

Now, it’s your turn to journey back—to the homeland they left behind. Walk the ancient streets they once called home. Visit the churches where they were baptized. Stand in the shadows of castles and cathedrals they passed each day. This is not just an ancestry trip—it’s a tribute to the grit, faith, and unbreakable spirit that runs in your blood.

Come walk where they once walked. And honor their courage—with your return return.
