SICILIAN ANCESTRY TOUR

DESCRIPTION:

This unique Sicilian tour is customized for passionate Sicilian descendants interested in learning about their Sicilian Ancestry. The itinerary is specifically designed to visit and experience the most important Sicilian heritage sites of Sicily.

We have planned every detail so you can travel in a relaxed, joyful, and worry-free environment. There will be many special dinners
and activities for you to enjoy at a leisurely pace.

-We’ve planned this trip for May during shoulder season avoiding peak tourist season and enjoying beautiful spring weather.
-We will stay in 3 different hotels for the entire stay.
-You will have some leisure time on your own to stroll the historic towns, have a coffee or a nice meal.
-Most mornings we will leave the hotel around 8:30 AM so you are not too rushed.

Sicilian Heritage Tour 2023

A unique program focusing on the history and culture of Sicily.
Bus transport in Sicily during your stay.
Accompanied by Cynthia Breaux Seitz and your tour guide.
12 nights accommodation at the hotel (note that hotel rooms in Sicily are smaller than North American rooms).
All breakfasts and 12 other meals (total of 24 meals).
Entrance fees for attractions, activities, and guided tours as described in the program:

- The Rocky Necropolis of Pontalica.

- Cathedrals of Cefalu and Monreale

Our Tour Guide

FLIGHT TO PALERMO

Overnight Flight to Palermo. If you would like to arrive a few days early to rest and recover from jetlag, Seitz Travel can make pre-stay arrangements for your trip.

Day 1 Sicilian Heritage Tour-

Welcome to Sicily!

Arrival at Palermo airport and transfer to the hotel in Palermo.

Welcome meeting

Day 2 Sicilian Heritage Tour

Palermo the capital of Sicily, visit Palermo highlights.
Monreale Cathedral and its golden mosaics, the Benedictine Cloister. Evening at leisure. Overnight stay in Palermo.

Day 3 Sicilian Heritage Tour

Departure for Cefalù and visit the beautiful town center on the sea and the Norman Cathedral. Continue to Castelbuono and visit the town. Free time for lunch before driving back to Palermo. Overnight stay in Palermo.

Day 4 Sicilian Heritage Tour

Departure to Segesta and visit the "lonely temple" of the 5th-century b.c. Visit Erice with its cobbled streets and the famous pastry shops. Overnight stay in Palermo.

Day 5 Sicilian Heritage Tour

Visit the Archaeological area of the Valley of the Temples, Unesco world heritage site. Visit the museum of Agrigento. Inside is an excellent collection of artifacts, temple decorations, a giant statue from the temple of Zeus, votive offerings, and a model of the largest temple in Magna Graecia. Overnight stay in Catania.

Day 6 Sicilian Heritage Tour

Excursion to Mount Etna: visit of the extinct craters Silvestri (1.900 m). Honey tasting in Zafferana Etnea. In the afternoon visit of Taormina (Greek Theatre and historic center). Overnight in Catania.

Day 7 Sicilian Heritage Tour

After breakfast depart for Piazza Armerina to visit the Villa del Casale, with its enchanting Roman mosaics. In the afternoon continue on to Caltagirone. We will take time to explore the world-renowned ceramic art and have time to interact with local craftspeople. Overnight in Catania.

Day 8 Sicilian Heritage Tour

Departure for Modica. Part of the UNESCO Heritage Sites in Sicily. The famous Chocolate of Modica is absolutely unique and produced from an ancient, original Aztec recipe. Then we continue to Ragusa Ibla highlights the wide array of Baroque architecture in Sicily, Overnight in Ragusa.

Day 9 Sicilian Heritage Tour

Depart to Syracuse to visit the most beautiful Greek colony of Sicily. Visit of the archaeological area, the Roman Amphitheatre and the Dyonisios “Ear”. Visit the island of Ortigia. In the afternoon, depart to Noto, one of the most beautiful cities in Sicily renowned for the harmony and unity of its Baroque style. Overnight in Catania.

Day 10 Sicilian Heritage Tour

Depart to Catania, the town known for its original baroque style and for its streets built with black lava stone from Mount Etna. Walking tour through Via Etnea, the Baroque street “Via Crociferi”, Piazza Duomo with the Cathedral and the “Liotru” statue, symbol of the city. Afternoon excursion to Etna winery for wine tasting. Overnight in Catania.

Day 11 - Return Home

End of services with the transfer to the airport of Catania.
